You Are Welcome Here is SHIVERS Gallery's first full exhibition program. Across four shows, we introduce ourselves and share our vision for the gallery.

The Third Space, curated by Şafak Gürboğa and Rasim Aslan, brings together five artists from asylum seeker communities in Europe and Australia in an exhibition about cultural negotiation, political resistance, and the reimagining of communities.

In Contemporary Orientals, Latifa Elmrini presents a body of work that explores a collective gaze that sees the oriental body as a playground of ideological and psychological violence.

In ORDER(chaos), James Paul transforms the space with two works that use colour and light to engage the viewer in an experience of sensory dissonance, posing questions such as: “What does it feel like to stare into the sun?”

The program closes with Book-ish: a curated collection of art books, zines, and prints from independent publishers and small press houses around the world—including Melbourne, Budapest, and Belgrade. In collaboration with our friends from Troppo Print Studio, the show offers reflections on our current moment from artistic publishing communities worldwide.

You Are Welcome Here is both an invitation and a provocation. We ask: What does it mean to be welcome somewhere? Who is welcome, and who is not? SHIVERS is a space for showing, making, and thinking together.

You are welcome here.
